MOXIE Lowered into Rover
NASA/JPL-Caltech
Mars Oxygen In-Situ Resource Utilization Experiment (MOXIE) instrument lowered into Perseverance Rover on March 21, 2019.

Young Dane forms oxygen on Mars

The Mars Perseverance Rover drives around with a machine that can extract oxygen from the atmosphere on Mars. The oxygen machine MOXIE has so far only produced a small amount of oxygen, but the experiment has been successful and perhaps already within the next decade an oxygen factory will be sent to Mars, which can produce the necessary 25 tons of oxygen needed to send a mass mission back from the Red Planet to Earth. It is also possible to produce oxygen for normal breathing. Hear Harald Okkels talk about how he became involved in producing oxygen on other planets. Science journalist Jens Degett from Science Stories interviews MOXIE researcher Harald Okkels from DTU Energy.
