Data Policy

I.  Introduction. Disclosure of your personal information.

Science Stories processes your personal data and must comply with the laws and principles of good data processing practices. Therefore, we have adopted this Data Policy which briefly describes how we process your personal information.

II.  We are responsible for the processing of your personal data.

We do not disclose information about you to others outside of Science Stories, for example, for use in marketing or advertising without your consent. However, certain exceptions apply:

  • If you actively indicate that you wish, we may disclose your personal information to companies, organizations and individuals.
  • We reserve the right to use or disclose personal data to the extent necessary to comply with applicable law, conduct investigations in connection with complaints, respond to your requests or for investigative purposes.
  • We transfer any personal data to a data processor in accordance with applicable data protection laws, including entering into data processor agreements with our data processor to ensure that personal data is processed solely for the purposes stated and to ensure appropriate security measures.

We safeguard your personal information. We want to protect Science Stories users against the disclosure or destruction of personal data that we store. Therefore, the following applies:

  • Only the Science Stories ApS and IT managers represented by Jens Degett (Duevej 22, Frederiksberg DK-2000) have access to the personal data.
  • The personal data is regularly backed up, and these backups are stored exclusively on the workstations of hard computers and authorized services (ex. Dropbox, iCloud or Google Docs).
  • Authorized persons (i.e. Science Stories ApS Chief Editor, Director and IT programmer) who can access the personal data, but may not share them or store them locally longer than is necessary.
  • We will contact the Data Inspectorate, and possibly the police, if we become aware that all or some of the personal information is being stolen, hacked or otherwise compromised.

III.  Categories of personal data we process.

We process the following personal information about you:

  • Statistics on our website and social media usage.
  • It is possible to opt-out of cookies from Google Analytics. This is done via the cookies menu at the bottom of the web page.

IV.  How we collect information.

Usually we get the information from you. Yet, in some cases, there may be other sources such as social media, internet searches or other publicly available channels.

We process your personal information when we have a legitimate reason. Legitimate reasons for processing information about you are:

  • That we have a legitimate interest in processing your information in the form of statistics on consumption of Science Stories media.
  • That it is necessary for us to fulfill an agreement with you.
  • That the law requires that we process your information.
  • That you have consented to our processing of your information.

V.  Our purpose in collecting personal data. We process your personal information in accordance with one or more of the following purposes:

  • To provide statistics on the use of Science Stories on various media platforms as documentation to sponsors and public institutions supporting Science Stories.
  • To answer any questions or objections you may have.
  • To improve security and prevent fraud and abuse.
  • To comply with the Bookkeeping Act and other legal obligations that Science Stories ApS may have.

VI. Our purpose of collecting personal data. To the extent that we process your personal data, it is done solely on the basis of legitimate interests which are:

  • To document traffic on the Science Stories website and other channels to sponsors and foundations supporting Science Stories for publishing via social media and podcast.

VII.  Your rights.

When we process your information you have a number of rights following the EU General Personal Data Regulation (GPDR) :

  • You have the right to be informed that we are processing information about you - this is what we inform you about in this Data Policy.
  • You have the right to gain access to the information we process about you.
  • You have the right to have incorrect information about you corrected.
  • You have the right to have information about you deleted.
  • You have the right to object to the use of your information for marketing purposes.
  • You have the right to move your information - i.e. that we provide the information we have about you in a commonly used format.
  • You may exercise your rights, including objections to our processing, by contacting us. You will find our contact information at the top of this Data Policy.
  • If you respond to a request to have your personal data corrected or deleted, we will investigate whether the conditions are met and, if so, make changes or deletions as soon as possible.
  • You can lodge a complaint with the supervisory authorities - the Data Inspectorate - about the processing of your personal data.

VIII.  Disclosure of your personal information. We do not disclose information about you to others - for example for marketing purposes - without your consent. However, certain exceptions apply:

IX.  We look after your personal information. We want to protect Science Stories from access, alteration, disclosure or destruction of personal data that we store. Therefore, the following applies:

  • Only Science Stories ApS  (represented by Jens Degett) has access to personal information regarding Science Stories.
  • We contact the Data Inspectorate and possibly the police if we become aware that all or some of the personal information is being stolen, hacked or otherwise compromised.

X.  Revision of Data Policy.

Our data policy may change from time to time.

When we change our data policy, we also change the date at the top of this document. The Data Policy in effect at any time is available on our website Science Stories.

XI. Cookies

Cookies are small text files that are used to improve website functionality and content. By law, we must obtain your consent for all cookies on your device that are not strictly necessary to provide the service on the Website or that involve personal data.

This website uses different cookies. Some cookies are set by third-party services used on our website:

  • Science Stories website: uses cookies on this site to store your consent, and for functions that require login.

  • Google Analytics: uses cookies from Google Analytics to measure traffic on sciencestories.dk. It is possible to deselect cookies from Google Analytics.

  • SoundCloud: is the host to Science Stories' podcasts and other audio files. In order for the player to work properly, SoundCloud puts a cookie on your device. Read more about their cookies at SoundCloud.

  • How to avoid cookies? : If you do not want cookies on your device, they can be blocked or completely deleted.
